Millwright and Technician – Machine building experience advantageous

Qualifications required: Trade Certification (Red Seal) Millwright 

Years working experience required: 5+ years (from qualifying date) - Previous experience within the FMCG and packaging industry will be beneficial.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in: 

Equipment Maintenance and Repair:

Conduct routine maintenance on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.

• Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs promptly to minimize downtime.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical problems efficiently.

Installation and Commissioning:

Install new machinery and equipment according to specifications and safety standards.

• Conduct thorough testing and commissioning of newly installed equipment.
• Ensure proper alignment and calibration of machinery components.

Machine Building:

Building of packaging machines and conveyor systems from mechanical design drawings.

• Quality checking parts before assembled into the machines.
• Following assembly instructions and using best practice assembly principles for: Bearing assemblies, belt and pully systems, motor and gearbox assemblies, pneumatic component assemblies.
• Building of electrical control panels for electrical schematic drawings.
• Installing of sensors and control components and commissioning with the automation engineer

Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance and repair tasks.

• Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure a safe working environment.
• Keep abreast of industry standards and best practices to maintain compliance.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and parts inventory.

• Generate reports detailing equipment performance, maintenance schedules, and repair histories.
• Communicate effectively with management regarding equipment status and maintenance needs.

Training and Collaboration:

Provide guidance and training to junior maintenance staff as required.

• Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance schedules and optimize workflow.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and productivity.

Soft Skills and General requirements

Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Provide guidance and training to Apprentices as required.
• Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the 
• Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures

• South African ID or valid working permit
• Must have a valid drivers license 
• Be based in Cape Town or willing to relocate at their own cost
• Must be willing to travel – at times it could be requested to travel for a period of time away from home.
